National Archaeological Museum

National Archaeological Museum AthensThe National Archaeological Museum in Athens is one of the most breathtaking collections of artifacts in the world today. It’s certainly the place to see the best collection of Greek treasures that date all the way back to prehistoric times.

The museum was first constructed in the late 1800’s and contains prehistoric artifacts, priceless sculpture, Minor art, pottery, bronze items, and even Egyptian artwork and artifacts. You’ll see things like a Neolithic sculpture dating back to 4500 BC, a statue of Nereid from 380 BC, a bronze statue of Octavian Augustus from the first century BC, and so much more. The amazing and priceless items housed at the National Archaeological Museum are among the oldest and most awe-inspiring on the planet.

Along with the regular exhibits, you’ll also find a variety of temporary exhibitions. In the past, some of these exhibitions have included things like Jewelry of Greek Prehistory and Gods and Heroes of the Bronze Age. You will also find lectures and seminars on a variety of topics held at the museum. There are even classes and programs that are also held at the museum as part of what’s called the Melina project.

There’s also a gift shop where you can purchase souvenirs like guidebooks, postcards, books, artwork, maps, VHS tapes and even toys. The National Archaeological Museum also participates in the project TOMBA, an online database of images.

The museum is open on Mondays from 1 pm to 730 pm. On Tuesday through Sunday, you can visit from 8 am to 730 pm. There are a few special days each year when admission is free, however normally it costs a small fee to gain admittance. The price for adults is 7 euro. Students and senior citizens are given a discounted price of 3 euro. And for children, university students, journalists and tour guides, admission is always free of charge.

How far are you located from the Divani Acropolis Hotel in Athens. Also what is your address and hours of operation.
    Many thanks,
    Helen
