Crete
Crete is an island that forms the part of Greece. It is the fifth largest island in the Mediterranean Sea. But more than its geographical location, what adds to the fame of Crete is its tag as a favored tourist destination and vacation spot in Europe. It is a rare potpourri of nature’s splendor, wealth of myth, legends and history, and the sophistication of a fast paced 21st century. The city is neither back in time nor fully modern. But a delicate balance exists between the two worlds. In short, for a prospective tourist, Crete has virtually every ingredient for a fun filled vacation.
The variety Crete offers include stunning mountain villages, rocky bays, long sandy beaches, beach-bar-boogie and a thrilling nightlife. In fact, the list in never ending; its fishing and snorkeling vistas, archeological sites, scintillating tours, and water sports galore, supplementing the above mentioned possibilities, provide with a tourist something to get engaged with all through the 24 hrs in a day. Also worth mentioning is the climate of Crete, which is one of the best in Europe, as well as the accommodation and transportation facilities available in the island. Both are top notch and meeting international standards.
From a tourist point of view, the must visit sites in Crete include the interesting Heraklion, the historic Chania featuring the old Venetial villages and harbor, Rethymno, and the tranquil Sitia. For those who think that the most beautiful places on earth are the unspoilt lands, consider taking a short tour to Chora Sfakia, Keratokambos, Rogdia, Monastiraki, Makrigialos, Zaros, Anogia, and Axnos. These places have a unique natural charm for commercial tourism is yet to extend its tentacles to this part of Crete. For adventure buffs, there are umpteen walks, rides, and hiking vistas that take one across the mountain scapes, charming country side, and the stunning plateaus. A one day cruise to the nearby islands is also a good option, especially if one is done with the Crete attractions.
To sum it up, Crete offers something to suit virtually everybody’s taste. It is just about finding the right place and entertainment.
Crete has three airports linked by passenger flights, at Heraklion, Akrotiri, and Sitia. One can also reach the island by sea, at any of its harbors.
